Arlington officially opened in 1927 when more than 20,000 fans braved the cold weather to witness jockey Joe Bollero guided Luxembourg to victory in the very first race. In 1933, it installed the first all-electric totalisator, a system that reduced the time between races and added credibility to wagering information by displaying the amount bet on each horse in a race.
Arlington maintains international presence by exchanging races with leading tracks in England and Japan and participating in Jockey Club deliberations and global conferences on international racing. In 2005 the track was selected to organize the North and South American simulcast of the Dubai World Cup.
