WIN - A win bet requires that your selection finishes first in the race. If it finishes in any other position, you will not receive any return for your outlay.
PLACE - Requires that your selection finishes first, second, or third in a race which has eight or more runners, or first or second when there are seven runners or less.
EACH WAY - Is the same as having both a win and a place bet on your selection. If it finishes first, you will collect both the win and place dividend, but if your selection finishes in second or third place, you will collect the place dividend only. The same rules regarding the number of horses in a race apply to this place bet.
QUINELLA - Requires you to select the two runners that will finish first and second in a race, in either order.
Box quinella - you select three or more runners in the race, from which any two may finish first and second place. For example, if you boxed the runners one, four and six, you receive three combinations with which you can win the quinella: one and four, one and six, and four and six.
Standout quinella - you select a runner that you believe will finish first or second (a standout), and a number of runners to fill the other placing. If you select horse number one as a standout from four and six, you receive two combinations with which you can win the quinella: one and four, and one and six. Should the combination of four and six fill the quinella, however, you will not receive a return.
EXACTA - Is similar to a quinella, but you are required to select the two runners that will finish first and second in a race, in the correct order.
Boxed exacta - your selections may finish in any order. If you box runners four and six, you receive two combinations with which you can win the exacta four (first) and six (second), and six (first) and four (second).
Standout exacta - you nominate a runner to finish either first or second, and a number of runners to fill the other placing. The standout horse must finish in the placing you nominate.
TRIFECTA - Requires you to select the three runners that will finish first, second and third, in the correct order.
Box trifecta - any of your selections can finish first, second and third, in any order. If you box the runners one, four and six, you receive six combinations with which you can win: one, four and six; one, six and four; four, one and six; four, six and one; six, one and four; and six, four and one. The more runners you select, the more combinations you receive, and the more your investment will be.
Standout trifecta - you select a runner to finish first, and two or more other runners to finish second and third in any order. If you standout number one to win, and nominate four, six and nine to finish second and third, you receive six possible combinations.
Multiple trifecta - you select two or more runners to finish first, with a number of other runners to finish second and third. This means one of your runners selected to finish first must win the race, and two of any of the runners you selected (including the other horse stood-out for first place) must finish second and third..
SUPERFECTA - Similar to a trifecta, but this requires you to select the first six finishers in the correct order. You can also box a superfecta, or have standout or multiple superfectas, which work in a similar manner to those of a trifecta (except of course there are six placings to fill). If no one selects the first six finishers in the correct order, the dividend pool will jackpot to the next superfecta race.
DOUBLE - A bet which requires you to select the winner of two races nominated by the totalisator. At each meeting, two consecutive races are selected to make the extra double, and two other consecutive races are selected to make the daily double. Each of the two double races is known as a leg, meaning the races are referred to as the first or second leg of the extra double, or the first or second leg of the daily double.
Standout double -you select a runner to win one leg, and a number of runners to win the other leg. If you select horse one to win the first leg, with four, six and nine in the second leg, number one must win the first leg, and either four, six or nine win the second leg, in order for you to receive a dividend.
Multiple double -you select two or more runners to win in each leg of the double.
PAK BET - A combination of each way, quinella and trifecta betting. You select a minimum of three runners in a race, and are provided with a ticket which gives you each way betting on each of the horses you choose, as well as quinella and trifecta combinations using the same runners.
ALL UP - Requires you to select one runner in either two, three or four races to be held at the one race meeting. Each selection in each race can be backed for either a win or a place, but all selections must be successful in whatever way you nominated, in order to collect a dividend.
PARLAY - Parlay betting is actually a way to place multiple all up bets and therefore increase your chance of winning. To receive a dividend, at least two selections must be successful. Your final dividend is calculated by multiplying your initial investment by the dividend paid to each of your selections, for every successful all up bet. If two or more parlay selections are scratched, you are entitled to a refund on your investment.
Four leg parlay -you have backed a runner for either the win or place in four races. You actually receive 11 individual all up bets: one four leg all up bet, four three leg all up bets, and six two leg all up bets.
Three leg parlay -you back a runner for either the win or the place in three races, and receive four different all up bets: one three leg all up bet and three two leg all up bets.
MYSTERY BET - you let the computer make your selections for you. Mystery betting is available on win, place, quinella, exacta, trifecta, superfecta and doubles bets.
